Today's DWI Headlines

Did You Know?
  • Recreational drug use - the use of psychoactive drugs for recreational rather than for working or for medical or spiritual purposes, although the distinction is not always clear.
  • Felony - in many common law legal systems, is the term for a very serious crime, misdemeanors are considered to be less serious.
  • Field sobriety test - a series of standardized physical motor skills and mental tests performed by police officers who have stopped a suspected drunk driver to better at determining the level of impairment.
  • Alcoholism - a dependency on alcoholic beverages characterized by craving (a strong need to drink), loss of control (being unable to stop drinking despite a desire to do so), physical dependence, tolerance (increasing difficulty of becoming drunk) and withdrawal symptoms.
  • Unit of alcohol (U.K.) - equivalent to 10 milliliters (or approximately 8 grams) of pure ethanol, the active chemical ingredient in alcoholic beverages. The number of units of alcohol in a drink can be determined by multiplying the volume of the drink (in milliliters) by its percentage ABV, and dividing by 1000.
