  • Alcohol - a potent drug with a range of side effects. The amount and circumstances of consumption play a large part in determining the extent of intoxication, e.g. consuming alcohol after a heavy meal is less likely to produce visible signs of intoxication than consumption on an empty stomach. Hydration also plays a role, especially in determining the extent of hangovers.
  • Field sobriety test - a series of standardized physical motor skills and mental tests performed by police officers who have stopped a suspected drunk driver to better at determining the level of impairment.
  • Automobile or car - a wheeled vehicle that carries its own motor. Different types of automobiles include cars, buses, trucks, jeeps, and vans, with cars being the most popular.
  • Drunk driving or drinking and driving - the act of operating a motor vehicle after having consumed alcohol (ethanol) or other drugs, to the degree that mental and motor skills are impaired. It is illegal in most jurisdictions within the U.S.
  • Court - an official, public forum which a sovereign establishes by lawful authority to adjudicate disputes, and to dispense civil, labor, administrative and criminal justice under the law.
